“Reciprocal Beehive Adoption” Program – A Life-Giving Act for Nature
In the context of our environmental philosophy and our certification with the international eco-label Green Key, our hotel proudly presents a new, meaningful green initiative with environmental and social impact: our participation in the “Reciprocal Beehive Adoption” program.
This initiative is implemented in a small village at the foothills of Mount Kerkini, near Lake Kerkini and above the Strymonas River, where our beehive is housed — in an area of rare natural beauty, part of the protected ecosystem of Kerkini Lake National Park (Ramsar & Natura 2000).
Bees may be small, but they are vital to life: through pollination, they give life to plants, maintain the balance of nature and strengthen biodiversity. Through this initiative, we actively contribute to their protection and the preservation of natural ecosystems.
The program includes the placement and care of a full beehive, continuous inspections and responsible management throughout the year, relocation to areas of intense flowering, honey harvesting and quality control, as well as winter care to ensure healthy overwintering of the population.
Through this initiative:
- Biodiversity is enhanced through the natural process of pollination
- The local community and border-region economy are supported
- Environmental awareness is cultivated
- The hotel’s ESG strategy is strengthened
Our environmental commitment goes beyond certifications and is expressed through real, measurable actions. The “Reciprocal Beehive Adoption” program is another step in our continuous effort to combine hospitality with respect for nature and society.
